Course description
This full day course is aimed at nurses wanting to further their understanding of the diagnostic approach and treatment options for patients with cancer. It will provide candidates with a mixture of both practical and theoretical knowledge on the most commonly encountered tumours and the various management protocols that can be offered either in practice or complimented with referral treatment. The course will be relevant to all nurses with various levels of experience, giving practical tips on safe chemotherapy administration, venous access, in-house cytology, emergency nursing of cancer patients / complications, nurse clinics and client liaison.
Specific areas to be covered:
• Common tumours and treatment protocols
• Understanding chemotherapy, radiation and biological therapies
• Safe chemotherapy preparations and administration (intravenous, subcutaneous and intracavitary)
• Interactive case studies (to include all of the above)
