Course description

Mechanical Ventilation of Patients with COVID-19

This course will help prepare certified non-ICU hospital general practitioners or clinicians to assist ICU physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists in the treatment of a patient who is receiving ventilation mechanics. Given the increasing number of patients contracting COVID-19 and developing pneumonia, the healthcare system has, and will continue to have, an urgent demand for licensed medical professionals who can assist with the care of these patients. This course is intended for certified medical professionals and provides general information on mechanical ventilation and the different types of ventilatory support in patients with COVID-19.

The needs of patients and the contexts of clinical care vary, we clarify that the information provided here should not be used as a medical recommendation for diagnosis and/or treatment. Mechanical ventilators should always be used under the supervision of a licensed and qualified medical professional. Consult the manufacturer's instructions for the particular device you are using and the product labeling for any medication administered. As medical professionals from around the world and from all disciplines come together to tackle the COVID-19 virus, the time has come to share knowledge and tools. Helping to prepare non-ICU hospital staff to assist in the operation and proper use of mechanical respirators will make us stronger against the virus, giving us all an extra pair of hands to count on for support. . Our patients depend on us! There is no question that respiratory therapists, physicians, and intensive care unit nurses are the experts in managing care for critically ill patients. However, in extreme times like this, the response capacity, due to the exponential increase in patients, may exceed the number of trained personnel available. Therefore, now is the time to join.
