Early Years Practitioner
An Early Years Practitioner works as part of a professional team ensuring the welfare and care of children under the guidance and supervision of an Early Years Educator, teacher, or another suitably qualified professional in the Early Years Workforce. You will be responsible for supporting child-initiated and adultled activities based on the needs and interests of each child whilst supporting children’s learning. An EYP will also support the observation and assessment of each child, contribute to their learning experiences, and assist with the care needs of the individual child. Such as teeth, skin, hair, feeding, changing nappies and toileting under the direction of a more senior member of the team.

- Work in partnership with other colleagues, parents and/or carers or other professionals to meet each child's individual needs in line with company policies and procedures.
- Use play to support children to understand and encourage healthy life choices.
- Identify safeguarding and child protection issues, ensuring that children's welfare and safety are promoted and safeguarded and reporting any child protection concerns to the person in charge.
- Carry out self-reflection and use continuous professional development opportunities to improve practice.
- Undertake specific tasks related to the children's safety and hygiene and the setting's cleanliness.
- Use knowledge of child development to work with parents and carers to improve children's outcomes and well-being, including those with disabilities and additional needs.
- Contribute to the planning and organise activities and children's individual experiences, which will support and extend the children's learning in line with the Early Years
- Foundation Stage.
- Communicate and engage with children to support their learning and development.
- Support the collection of accurate and up-to date records which identify children's individual needs, abilities and progress and use these as a basis for future planning
- Support the well-being of all children, including those with additional needs and disabilities.

Course delivery details
Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
- Portfolio submission must include at least one piece of evidence relating to each knowledge, skill, and behaviour - Proof can be cross-referenced to multiple ksbs. A minimum of 10 pieces of evidence submitted - one per duty - up To a maximum of 12. Evidence must include two workplace observations from within the last three months of Learning, each at a minimum of 60 minutes. Where possible, workplace observations should be videoed and Retained at the employer’s premises.
- The portfolio of evidence will not be formally assessed, the independent assessor will use it to inform the Professional discussion.
- The professional discussion will be a 1-to-1 conversation between the independent assessor and apprentice, Underpinned by the portfolio, which will be available during the debate.
- The professional discussion will last for a minimum of 90 minutes.
- During the discussion, ten questions will be asked to assess the depth of understanding, skills, and behaviours. It will take place within the workplace or remotely.
Knowledge Test
- You can complete the knowledge test electronically - computer-based or paper-based.
- The maximum duration of the knowledge test is 60 minutes.
- The knowledge test will consist of 40 multiple-choice questions.
- A score of 65% is required for a pass - 26 of 40 questions answered correctly.
- Of the 26 questions answered correctly, these must include 3 of 5 questions relating to the legal requirements and Guidance on safeguarding, security, the confidentiality of the information and promoting the welfare of children And 3 of 5 questions relating to the legal requirements and guidance for, health and safety and security.
- You must take the knowledge test in a controlled exam environment in the presence of an invigilator
