Course description
This course will enable you to gain the skills supporting a teacher in the classroom and wider school activities. It targets the key skills, knowledge and competence that employers would expect of someone working at this level as a Teaching Assistant in a school setting.
During the course you will cover the following:
* Schools structure and organisation in England and Wales
* Provide effective support for teaching and learning in schools
* Identify stages of child development and its impact on learning
* Implement legislations, school policies and procedures for safeguarding children
* Use a variety of strategies to manage pupils' behaviour
* Use different communication strategies to build and maintain positive relationships with pupils and staff
* Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in schools
* Reflect on your practise
* Devise an Action Plan for personal and professional development
* Preparing for employment - interview skills
Teaching / Learning Methods
Voluntary or paid work in a real work environment, professional discussions, individual research, personal reflections, paired / group work and presentations.
Assessment pattern
You will be assessed by completing a portfolio of evidence and observation of your practice in a school.
Progression opportunities
The course provides the underpinning knowledge for the vocational component of the STL Advanced Apprenticeship.
