Course description
This highly practical journalism training course covers feature and profile writing, pitching ideas, exploring outlets, interview skills, writing to a formula and social networking.
You will improve your reporting and research skills to get your message across, identify a good story, pitch it to an editor and get it published online or in print.
As an added bonus, students who present a successful idea for the City Short Courses blog will have the opportunity to have their article professionally edited and published on the site. Details will be given on the course.
Please note this is a course for freelancers, bloggers and content writers. It is not suitable for those looking to publish short stories, novels or poetry.
This course is equally not suitable for those wishing to improve their English.
City’s Journalism Skills short course is aimed at those interested in writing as a journalist. Led by an experienced journalist and delivered over 8 weekly lessons, the course focuses on the skills required to help you get journalism style articles published in magazines, newspapers and online (blogs and digital content) from developing an initial idea right through to publication.

Assessment and certificates
Informal assessment will take place through group discussion, class room activities, and questions and answers sessions as guided by your tutor.
Students who attend 70% of the classes will receive a Certificate of completion at the end of the course.
