NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding End of Life Care

A suitable replacement/alternative to this withdrawn qualification is NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care.

What does this qualification cover?

This qualification aims to develop the learner’s knowledge and understanding of:

• how to work in end of life care
• the support needed to manage pain and discomfort
• how dementia impacts on end of life care
• the role of the care worker in time of death
• the loss and grief process.

Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is designed for a wide range of learners who wish to gain an understanding of end of life care.

Learners should be 16 to undertake the qualification.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification.

How is this qualification structured?

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding End of Life Care, learners are required to successfully complete 5 mandatory units:

• Unit 01 Understand how to work in end of life care
• Unit 02 Understand how to provide support to manage pain and discomfort
• Unit 03 End of life care and dementia
• Unit 04 Understanding the role of the care worker in time of death
• Unit 05 Understand loss and grief in end of life care

How is it assessed?

To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding End of Life Care, learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units as detailed in the qualification specification. Grades are not awarded.

The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding End of Life Care is internally assessed.

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to the following qualifications:

• Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Awareness
• Level 2 and 3 qualifications for Working in the Health Sector
• Level 2 and 3 qualifications in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care

• Level 3 Certificate in Working in End of Life Care

Which type of job roles can you apply for on completion?

The objectives of this qualification are to: give learners working, or intending to work, in healthcare and social care knowledge and understanding of end of life care to support their role and to enable learners to progress to other qualifications in this subject area, or within the wider area of health and social care.
