Course description
Management of Asbestos
Materials containing asbestos still remain in at least half a million buildings built before 2000, the risk may not be obvious and people may be exposed inadvertently therefore those involved in building maintenance, plumbing, electrical services, refurbishment, alteration, demolition, etc. are still at risk. The work may also affect the health of others not involved who use or visit the premises where asbestos has been disturbed.
Every year 100’s of enforcement notices are issued relating to failures to properly manage asbestos exposure. Many organisations and individuals have been prosecuted and fined, in some cases Directors have received prison sentences.
For those in a managerial or technical position involved with Property or Facilities Management or of contractors carrying out work in properties, this course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to manage the premises and projects, ensure that the law is complied with and that risk of exposure to asbestos is identified and controlled.
You will learn: how to identify the premises and types of materials that may contain asbestos; what action should be taken to deal with asbestos in buildings; what information must be provided to contractors; who has the legal duties relating to work where asbestos may be involved; how to manage projects effectively to avoid anyone being exposed to risk; and what to do in the event of an emergency where it is feared that asbestos may have been disturbed accidently.
By the end of the course, you should be confident to put in place the right processes and procedures to safely complete projects.
