If you want to become a counsellor, the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills forms the foundation of professional counselling practice. It also is for those who want develop essential listening and communication skills used in other professional or helping roles. It is also for those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development

During this course you will consider:
• What is counselling – the role of the helper and helpee and how to work empathically
• What are counselling skills
• Using counselling skills ethically and safely
• Using feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills

NB: The course will run from Sept subject to a suitable number of students applying and being accepted

Suitability - Who should attend?

The expectation is that you will attend all lessons in college face to face. There is a minimum expectation of 90% attendance. It is important that you build up a portfolio of work including ongoing assessments, weekly journals, skills practice and worksheets. These are all linked to criteria you need to pass. Your tutor will support you to do that. In addition to this internal assessment, there are externally assessed elements and all must be passed to gain the qualification.

Continuing Studies

Successful candidates may progress onto the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies. The unit credit can also be used towards other relevant qualifications on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
