Course description

This course is designed for first level nurses who do not hold a Specialist Practitioner degree who wish to undertake prescribing from the community practitioner formulary. The course meets the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for nurse and midwife prescribers (2006). Upon successful completion the university will award 15 credits at academic Level 6 and students will be able to apply to record their qualification of a V150 Prescriber with the NMC.

What's covered in the course?

The course prepares you to undertake the dynamic role of a V150 prescriber to meet the needs of clients/patients and carers with whom you work. The course is a means for synthesising and examining your professional knowledge, skills, analysis and theoretical frameworks of prescribing. You are required to reflect systematically on their learning using a reflective learning work book to evaluate and apply your knowledge and skills to achieve the assessments of the programme. The programme is delivered by qualified Non-Medical Prescribers experienced in a range of healthcare settings. The pharmacology element is taught by an academic with a pharmacological background.
