Course description
Outline
The Birmingham City Business School MBA. We focus on improving you as a manager, rather than simply teaching you about management.
Emphasising the development of practical management skills and international awareness, this MBA offers you the opportunity to study alongside and share cross-cultural insights with people from other countries. It brings real business relevance to your studies, allowing you to gain the knowledge, skills and competencies to operate and manage effectively in the international business environment.
This is supported by the Enhancing Business and Management Skills theme which runs throughout the first two stages of the programme, providing guidance related to academic, personal and managerial competency development, as well as research skills.
You have access to academic and administrative staff to assist your studies, careers advice; Business School resources and a range of supported IT equipment; as well as the services of the Faculty librarian.
Additionally, to help support your studies, the core text (where applicable) is provided free of charge for each module that is studied.
A range of educational methods is used, such as lectures, group discussions, case study workshops, individual investigative projects and a variety of audio and visual methods.
The 12 month course is run over four terms, the first three consisting of 12 weeks each and the fourth lasting for eight weeks. In contrast, the 18 month course is run over four terms, the first three consisting of 12 weeks followed by a two month summer break and completing with a final term of 20 weeks. On this route, you have the opportunity to concentrate solely on your dissertation in the final term. You can also benefit from a longer period of time for career enhancement and planning activities, time to experience UK life (for international students) and the potential to search for paid work during the summer break.
Please note, a January start is also offered on the MBA programme.
The MBA structure offers three exit points at Certificate, Diploma and Master’s level.
