IT Skills for Employment - Level 2 (Certificate)
To develop practical IT skills using industry standard software and to gain a nationally recognised IT qualification.

Who Is This Course For?
This course is suitable for anyone with existing computer skills who wants to become a confident, qualified IT user. It is appropriate for anyone who is looking to work in an environment where they would require more advanced IT skills e.g. a nurse, a teaching assistant, in an office or in management.
Do I Need Any Prior Knowledge, Skills Or Qualifications?
You need to have successfully completed a level 1 IT qualification or be able to use a computer at a good (Level 1) standard. You also need English and Maths to at least level 1 standard. Most learners joining the course will hold a level 1 IT qualification.

Will I Gain Any Qualifications?
Yes. You will gain a Level 2 ITQ Certificate (Exam board TLM Ingot).
Training Course Content
By the end of the course, learners will be able to use:
Microsoft Word to:
- Create a formal document such as a business letter or applying for a job
- File maintenance, printing, saving, opening and closing files
- Insert tables, images and borders
- Insert information from one document into another
- Mail-merge
Microsoft Excel to:
- Create a new spreadsheet
- File maintenance, print, save, open and close files
- Use simple formulae for calculations e.g. SUM, +, -, /, *
- Replicate (copy) formulas across more than one cell range
- Use more advanced formulae such as average and count, and conditional formulae such as if copying formulae across more than one cell range
- Create and format a chart, which can then be used in presentations
Microsoft PowerPoint to:
- Create a short presentation from a template (master) slide
- File maintenance, print, save, open and close files
- Insert pictures, charts, tables, and organisation charts into a presentation
- Add speaker notes and timings to a presentation
Course delivery details
The course length is 90 hours, often 3 hours per week.
Continuing Studies
What could this course lead to?
Following completion of the course you may be able to progress on to a level 3 IT qualification e.g. ECDL Level 3 OR C&G Diploma for IT Users (ITQ) Level 3. It will also help you in seeking employment in a related industry, e.g. as an office administrator or unqualified teaching assistant (this is also dependent on other skills such as English and maths). The skills acquired on the course are also useful for setting up your own business, e.g. using PowerPoint to sell your business idea, using Excel to manage your accounts and using Word to create a flyer advertising your business.
