Access Award in Business Skills (AAT) Level 1
To introduce you to the world of work and develop your employability skills.
This course is suitable if you:
- Want to develop your employability skills and prepare for the workplace
- Have minimal work experience or need additional support to progress
This may include younger learners, those on traineeships seeking basic employability skills, adults seeking to validate their existing skills to enter into the workplace, or those who want to study higher level AAT qualifications but would like to test their abilities before progressing further with AAT.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Do I Need Any Prior Knowledge, Skills Or Qualifications?
You will need to be able to use a computer unaided and have at least English and maths qualifications at Level 1. You will also need to have a working knowledge of our systems (email, Moodle, eTrackr), which you will learn on the short introductory course Become A Digital Learner.

Will I Gain Any Qualifications?
Yes, AAT Access Award in Business Skills Level 1. There is one computer-based exam which takes place at Brasshouse in the Library of Birmingham (Broad Street, Birmingham), usually in the last session.
Training Course Content
- Preparing for Work (25 guided learning hours): understand of how different organisations operate; contribute effectively in the workplace by working with others; manage your time, behave professionally and maintain data securely. Identify jobs that match your skills and abilities and apply for a job using an application form or CV.
- Using Numbers in Business (25 guided learning hours): basic numerical skills needed in the workplace and life outside work. These numerical skills range from simple calculations that are used most often in business to working with decimals, percentages and fractions, and applying proportions and ratios.
- Sales and Purchases in Business (25 guided learning hours): understand ways businesses process sales and purchases and the documentation and procedures used to move goods and services between businesses.
Course delivery details
This is a 75-hour online course. Courses are usually 5 hours per week plus you will be expected to do homework.

What Could This Course Lead To?
The skills developed will give a solid base from which to seek employment with greater confidence or progress to another AAT course. The skills developed could lead to employment as junior or supporting administrative roles in companies across a wide range of sectors, for example, as a:
- data entry clerk
- accounts administrator

- retail assistant
- customer service advisor
- despatch clerk/warehouse
