Interested in the behind-the-scenes and back-stage elements of your favorite shows? Want a career developing and producing the vital elements that go towards theatre, concerts, TV and Film? Then this course is for you.
Our Technical and Production Arts course is suitable for students who have an interest in the design, making and management of live or recorded performance events, covering the roles and responsibilities within technical theatre, production arts and creative media.
Your learning will be primarily hands-on, with workshops and practical sessions making up the majority of your study. Special importance is placed on collaboration with other groups and working together in a team. You will regularly be set tasks to complete in partnership with other student groups within the creative industries faculty and our industry partners.
This course is the UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Technical and Production Practice for the Creative Industries.

Suitability - Who should attend?
It is expected that most individuals enrolled on this qualification will be new to the industry.
There are no formal entry requirements. However, it is recommended that students are aged 18 or above, have a minimum of five GCSE grade 4/C or above, including English and maths, and at least one A Level (or equivalent Level 3qualification), preferably in a relevant creative subject.

Training Course Content
The UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Technical and Production Practice for the Creative Industries has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary to work in the production arts industry.
The qualification focuses on you creating a portfolio of skills and experiences, to be used as a one-year fast track into employment or for further progression to Higher Education.
The programme is made up of three mandatory units:
- Unit 1: Establishing principles of technical and production practice
- Unit 2: Applied professional practice
- Unit 3: Professional development project
Units 1 and 2 are graded Pass only. The overall qualification is graded based on Unit 3 as Pass, Merit, or Distinction. You will have the opportunity to widen your skills with specialist workshops and study of industry practices.
Learning activities include lectures, workshops and practical sessions.You will learn about the process of imagining, creating and delivering a performance event. You will be encouraged to explore a variety of different roles, ranging from design, construction, technical, management and marketing to give you a broad range of skills for the future.
As you progress, the course can adapt and specialise to help you follow your chosen career pathway, offering you flexibility and allowing your interests and previous study to influence the job roles you undertake. There is a significant emphasis on you being able to work independently and taking responsibility for your own learning during your time on the course.
Course delivery details
This qualification is assessed through two internally assessed and verified units (Units 1 and 2), which are subject to quality assurance by UAL Awarding Body and one internally assessed and verified unit (Unit 3) which is marked by the centre and externally moderated by UAL Awarding Body.
Units 1 and 2 are graded Pass only. The overall qualification is graded based on Unit 3 as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
