Course description
The City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies (6035) will help you develop your domestic plumbing skills.
You will learn all aspects of domestic plumbing and topics include:
- health and safety,
- tools and equipment
- plumbing process
- cold water
- hot water
- above-ground drainage
- central heating wet system (not gas)
- electrical processes
- plumbing science.
The course is delivered over 18 months, term-time, as a part-time evening course. Classes take place on Monday and Thursday evenings 18:00-21:00, with a mix of practical sessions in the workshop and classroom theory learning.
Please note: The fee shown is for Year 1 only. The fee for September 2024 to January 2025 will be an additional £435.

Suitability - Who should attend?
You will need a good understanding of the English language along with maths skills and good hand-to-eye coordination. Some previous experience in the industry will help, but is not essential as a positive attitude and excellent work rate will serve you well.
You'll also need the ability to use a computer for online learning and e-tests. You will need to attend and pass an initial assessment prior to enrolling to make sure the course is suitable for you.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
You will be able to work in the plumbing industry, for example as a plumber's mate. Alternatively, you could seek an Apprenticeship with a suitable employer and progress onto the level 3 NVQ apprenticeship program.
Training Course Content
You will gain pipework fabrication skills and develop installation techniques. You'll gain knowledge of plumbing regulations, terminology, tools and equipment, and learn how plumbing systems work.
You will be studying towards a Level 2 Diploma.
Course delivery details
There are 9 online exams that need to be passed as well as practical assessments that must be completed. The course is 40% theory, 60% practical.
On successful completion, you will be awarded a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies (6035)
Expenses
You will need to supply your own PPE: safety footwear, overalls, gloves, and safety glasses are required.
All tools and materials are supplied.
Fees may be payable, but please seek advice as you may qualify for funding depending on personal circumstances.
You will be expected to attend all sessions.
