Course description
Courses delivered by Oxford City Stage and Screen courses are highly practical, to prepare you for the industry. You will work in excellent facilities in studios and a bespoke theatre, with staff who have industry experience and are experts in their areas.
You can choose to specialise in either a dance pathway or an acting pathway. The courses crossover for classes such as musical theatre. Many of our students have gone on to gain places at top drama schools, dance colleges and universities such as Mountview, Central School of Speech and Drama, Wilkes Academy, Performers College, Urdang, Stella Mann College, East 15, Shockout and Emile Dale Academy.
Each term we plan trips and excellent performance opportunities. Our students have performed at Disneyland Paris, Move It Convention London, The New Theatre Oxford, Blenheim Palace, National Trust Sites, Oxford Castle and Prison, Oxford Lights Festival, The Westgate Shopping Centre, the Ashmolean Museum, and other public performances around Oxfordshire!
We also provide additional masterclasses and trips to enrich the student experience. Recently our students have worked with professionals from Les Mis, Motown the Musical, Hamilton and professional dancers based in London. We also have workshops from exciting professional theatre and dance companies. Each term, you will take classes to build your skills and you will work towards a unique performance project in collaboration with your peers.

This course is the UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts.

Suitability - Who should attend?
We will need to see your latest school report. You will also need four GCSEs grade 4 or above including English and Maths
Applicants will be asked to attend an in-person or telephone interview and an audition.
For the acting pathway audition: You will perform a monologue that will be sent to you to ahead of time.
For the dance pathway audition: You will need to prepare a one-minute dance solo in a style of your choice.
All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.

Outcome / Qualification etc.
We have had students secure places at excellent, highly competitive destinations. On successful completion of this course, in the future, you could progress to many professions, such as a professional dancer, actor, director, choreographer, teacher, freelance dance artist, rehearsal director, group fitness class instructor, personal trainer, theatre/arts administrator, marketing/social media manager, events manager, videographer/photographer, theatre outreach co-ordinator, community dance practitioner, movement therapist, lighting, costume or set designer.
You could also progress onto a higher education course. We have also had students go on to study courses relatively unrelated to the Arts. Studying Performing Arts gives you the confidence and transferable skills which will benefit you in many industries.
Training Course Content
Year 1
Acting Pathway
- You will train in naturalistic acting and perform scripted duologues in Term 1.
- You will train in physical theatre and perform a group piece in the style of Berkoff.
- You will have regular singing and dance classes and develop pieces for an audience.
By the end of Year 1, you will have created an assessed, devised performance and also a large-scale musical production.
Dance Pathway
- You will train in multiple styles; Street Dance, Commercial, Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, and Contemporary to make you a versatile all-round performer.
- You will learn about how performers look after themselves through diet, exercise, mental health awareness, and professional attributes.
- You will discover the context and history behind dance styles, looking at key practitioners and their influence.
- You will learn how to choreograph and create your own work.
- You will perform in dance films, the musical showcase and a final major dance show.
In the first year of this course, you will study for the diploma. Once that diploma is successfully achieved, you will be invited to continue to complete the full extended diploma in the second year of the course.
Year 2
Acting Pathway
- You will develop solo material; a modern monologue and a classical monologue and an optional solo song.
- You will have professional headshots taken for your portfolio.
- You will learn how to act on screen and collaborate with media students.
At the end of Year 2, you will mount another Final Major Project which may be a play, musical or devised piece depending on the skills and passions of your class.
Dance Pathway
- You will create a solo dance for your auditions.
- You will have professional dance shots taken for your portfolio.
- With peers, you will choreography your own short dance concept film.
At the end of Year 2, you will either choreograph your own 4-minute dance piece for the dance show or you will collaborate with acting pathway students in a musical.
Please note:Fees will apply if you are 19+ at the beginning of your studies and have previously completed a Level 3 qualification or are 24 and above.

Course delivery details
Working in specialist facilities, you will take part in regular technique classes, rehearsals and masterclasses across disciplines.
Assessment takes place periodically during the course, based on individual and group performance tasks, live performances and coursework. There is no written examination.
