Course description
On this course you will further develop an understanding of advanced mathematics and appreciate some of its powerful applications.
Further mathematics subjects include algebra and functions, sequences and series trigonometry followed by the study of decision maths.
The course is studied alongside A Level Mathematics, with students accepted by invitation only in September.

Suitability - Who should attend?
5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English. A GCSE in Maths at grade 6 is required. You will be required to complete an in-class assessment.
Training Course Content
You will study the following topics:
- Unit 1 – Further pure maths 1
- Unit 2 – Decision maths 1
- Unit 3 – Decision maths 2
- Unit 4 – Further pure maths 3
- Unit 5 – Further pure maths 4
- Unit 6 – Statistics 1 or mechanics 1
Course delivery details
You will learn through class teaching and discussion, group and individual classwork, regular directed homework, assessments, feedback and independent study. Challenge and support is provided, but your sustained effort and application will make the biggest impact on your ultimate success on this course.
Your Further Mathematics AS level can be a stand-alone qualification or lead on to A2 study. You will have your own specialist personal tutor who you will meet individually or as part of a group tutorial and they will help you set review and achieve your targets.
There is an extensive programme of enrichment opportunities on offer and you will be encouraged to select from a range including volunteering, work experience, sport and performing.
We expect you to be fully committed to your studies, to attend all timetabled classes and to submit all directed homework. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend trips and visits according to the needs of individual subjects. There are many enrichment opportunities, which will enable you to extend your learning beyond the bounds of your chosen subjects.
Formal assessment is through public examinations in June of Year 2 (three 120 minute papers).
Your progress will be assessed informally throughout, including through assessment tests, broadly twice each term.
Your suitability to continue your studies into year 2 will be assessed by internal examinations in May/ June of Year 1.
