Course description
This Level 2 electrical course has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further into an apprenticeship programme or into employment. It will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector and is a step towards becoming a competent electrician.
Sessions are led by tutors from the industry with vast experience across the electro-technical fields. Well-equipped industry standard workshops.
All 16-19-year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.

Suitability - Who should attend?
You'll need at least 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, including maths and English Language. Alternatively, you should have achieved a Level 1 Electrical Installation qualification.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and practical skills needed for working in the electrotechnical industry, which will prepare you to enter an electrotechnical apprenticeship programme, or progress onto the level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation.
Training Course Content
You will cover compulsory aspects such as:
- Scientific Principles
- Installation of wiring systems and enclosures
- Electrical Installations Technology
We work with local employers who contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by the employers.
This practically based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the electrotechnical industry or specialist further study.
Course delivery details
You will have theory and practical lessons that will prepare you for a synoptic theory exam around February and a synoptic practical assessment around April/May. These are both mandatory parts of the qualification along with the employer engagement activities.
All 3 elements must be completed for you to achieve the qualification.

You will need to purchase/provide IEE On-Site Guide, steel capped footwear, study equipment such as pens, paper and scientific calculator.
