Course description
You will study fundamentals of computer organisation, data structures, data representation and programming. The course will also introduce you to various approaches to problem solving and theory of computation, provide the conceptual bases for functional programming, communication and networking.
Upcoming start dates
Suitability - Who should attend?
5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English. A GCSE in Maths at grade 6 is essential. You must be completing A-Level Maths alongside this subject.
A Level Computer Science is hard. For many students the big ideas are much harder to conceptualise and they are developed much faster than they have been used to previously. Regardless of your certified attainment at GCSE, you must avoid complacency and be prepared to think and to work hard if you want to succeed. A Level Computer Science is hard, but it rewards hard work.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
With three A-levels there are many possibilities. You can progress to higher education to study at Degree level. An A-level in computer science will help you access university to study for a BSc in Computer Science or a range of related or analytical subjects from Application, Cyber security, Data, Forensic computer analysts to Game designer. You can alternatively progress directly into employment; A-levels demonstrate a high standard of education which many employers require as part of their entry criteria onto training programmes.
