Course description
This is a level 2 Diploma accredited by City & Guilds. The course is a real mix of practical training and assessments as well as theory based assessments; a great opportunity for those of you looking to come straight in at level 2. This course is also suited for those of you who already have a basic understanding of the construction industry and who want to build on that further.
What Youll LearnYou will be trained over an 8 week period (40 days) and the training will be predominantly practical.
This course will require a fair bit of home study commitment from you as there are also theory based assessments required in order to complete this course. At the time of booking, we will send you a home study pack as well as the associated City & Guilds reference books for the purpose of study and revision. In addition, we will also allocate you a Smartscreen account which is an additional learning resource.
You will learn through demonstration and practice over an 8 week period (40 days) and the training will be predominantly practical. You will undertake a variety of projects including marking out and making a full flight of stairs and you will also learn how to manufacture joints such as: mortice and tenon (haunched, franked, long and short shoulder), halving (cross, tee), widening (biscuit, dowel, tongue and groove, loose tongue, butt), housing (through, stopped), through dovetail, stud and cam.
The assessments are a mix of practical tasks and theory assessments including online exams so candidates will be required to research relevant topics when tasks are set. We will provide guidance on sources of reference that we recommend that you use in order to gain as much additional information as possible.

Courses Open To You AfterCity and Guilds have also introduced a level 3 Diploma in Joinery which Able Skills will be offering in the future.
Additional InfoAble Skills Carpentry and Joinery training centre is a fantastic learning area with 2 full time instructors and access to an additional 2 when we need. We have all of the tools and facilities in place to ensure detailed learning on both carpentry and joinery courses and qualifications, above and beyond the requirements of the certificating bodies.
LocationAll of our courses take place at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent. The centre is easily accessible by road, being just 10 minutes from junction 1a on the M25. We are only a short walk from Dartford train station which is served by frequent trains taking 35 minutes from central London. For anyone travelling from further away, we have our own accommodation available at only £25 per night.

Duration & CostThis is an 8 week course which can be completed in 8 consecutive weeks or broken down in to 8 separate weekly blocks. This course can also be completed using weekend attendance.
A £500 deposit will secure a booking and the balance can be paid in instalments.
Total cost is £3295.00 including VAT.
