Course description
The purpose of the AM2/AM2E/AM2S is to ensure all qualified electricians achieve a single standard that has been agreed by the employers in the industry as meeting their needs from qualified personnel. The content, structure and marking of the assessment is designed to evidence that a candidate has gained all the relevant safety critical competencies during their training process. AM2 provides a reliable and trusted guarantee of safe, high-quality workmanship for the electrotechnical industry and is highly valued by employers, who regard it as evidence of competence for an electrician.
What Youll LearnThe AM2 test is appropriate to:
- Apprentices approaching the end of their training for the JIB Apprentice Training Scheme and the Electrical Installation Modern Apprenticeship.
- Others wishing to accredit practical experience.
The test is an industry recognised trade test that is controlled by the National Electrotechnical Training (NET) Organisation in conjunction with the Joint Industry Board (JIB) and Summit Skills who are currently the Sector Skills Council for the Electrotechnical Industry.
AM2 is a practical assessment with a short online component, taken over 16.5 hours (2.5 days).
During this time candidates undertake a series of timed tasks in specially equipped booths containing typical electrical installation wiring systems. The exercises include installation, inspection and testing and fault-finding and the work must comply with the current IEE Wiring Regulations and be carried out in line with Health & Safety best practice.

AM2 - The AM2 should be taken bythose undertaking theJIB Mature Candidate Assessmentand those following theLevel 3 NVQwho are not apprentices.
AM2S - The AM2S should be taken by electrotechnical apprentices who are training against theApprenticeship Standard.
AM2E - The AM2E is for experienced workers who are completing theExperienced Worker Assessment. It can only be taken once you have gained the Experienced Worker Qualification you will have to supply proof of this qualification before you can book the assessment.

- Lighting and power circuits
- A three-phase distribution board and sub circuit
- A central heating/sustainable energy system
- A safety services circuit and device
- A data cabling system

If you are at the stage in your Electrical career to be undertaking AM2, it is likely that the only qualifications that you may not have areInspection and TestingorNVQ level 3.

LocationAll of our courses take place at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent. The centre is easily accessible by road, being just 10 minutes from junction 1a on the M25. We are only a short walk from Dartford train station which is served by frequent trains taking 35 minutes from central London. For anyone travelling from further away, we have our own accommodation available at only £25 per night.
