AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting

The five units making up the Level 2 Certificate are:

Bookkeeping Transactions (BTRN)

This unit introduces you to double entry bookkeeping, the different types of accounts and records a business keeps and how to enter transactions into the accounts.

Bookkeeping Controls (BKCL)

This unit follows on nicely from Bookkeeping Transactions. You will learn how to identify errors in the accounts and make corrections. You will also learn about the banking system and how to create a full set of accounts up to trial balance.

Using Accounting Software (UACS)

For this unit you will be required to use your knowledge of bookkeeping and double entry to enter a company’s data into a computerised system.

We base this unit on using Sage 50 Professional software. This is the most popular choice in the industry and is used extensively by employers and accountancy practices. The fundamentals of data entry are covered within this unit but as this is a work entry level we also offer the Sage 50 Professional courses and certificate as an inclusive option. This has proven to be our most popular choice over the years as it provides more employment opportunities.

Elements of Costing (ELCO)

This unit introduces you to management accounting. You will learn how a business uses accounts to help them plan for the future and the different type of costs involved in running a business.

Working Effectively in Finance (WEAF)

This is the final unit for Level 2 covering working effectively and efficiently in an office environment and how to manage your workload. There is no standalone exam for this as it will be covered in the final Synoptic Assessment.

Foundation Synoptic Assessment (FSYA)

This is the final exam for Level 2 covering general topics and question from what has been learned in the five Level 2 Units.
