Level 2 in Supporting Teaching & Learning
Studying with us for a qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, will help you to develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to work in an entry-level or specialist role within an educational setting.
This qualification aims to assist with the increasing demand for trained support staff, who are able to aid pupils’ learning and development, as well help you to develop valuable skills with which to build relationships with colleagues and parents.

Suitability - Who should attend?
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you must be aged over 18 and either employed or have regular access to a work environment.
We recommend that you have a good command of literacy and numeracy before enrolling on these courses. We can provide support for this through our programme of online and classroom study for English, Maths and ICT.
Qualification Objective
- For the Level 2 Diploma, you will need to gain 21 credits from 5 mandatory units and 24 credits from 3-9 optional units.
Candidates achieving Level 2 may progress to Level 3 or 4, and if you want to go further, you can join a Management and Leadership course with Need 2 Succeed. There are also various diploma and degree qualifications available nationally.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
Achievement of this qualification will indicate both knowledge and competence required to practice as a Teaching Assistant, classroom or learning support assistant; special needs assistant; behaviour support assistant/coordinator; pastoral/welfare assistant; foundation stage assistant or team leader. You could also use this qualification to progress into further learning within the education sector.
This qualification is also designed to make up the component part of the Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools apprenticeship. The primary purpose of the qualification is to confirm competence in an occupational role to the standards required and covers areas such as:
- Child and young person development
- Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- Communication and professional relationships
- Help improve own and team practice in schools
- Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
- Support children and young people’s positive behaviour
- Support learning activities
